Infobip MCP servers
Say you're building an AI assistant for a travel agency. A customer asks to rebook a flight and get a confirmation via SMS. Your agent figures out the new flight, but how does it actually send that SMS? It needs to talk to Infobip's messaging API. By now, I'm sure you've heard about the plethora of APIs that Infobip offers. Integrating and connecting to the APIs were often something clients struggled with. With how the future is evolving to be agentic, that's where MCP servers come in.
What is MCP
Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that lets AI agents discover and use external tools, without custom integration code per tool. Think of it as a universal plug: any AI agent that speaks MCP can connect to any MCP server and immediately understand what actions are available.
Infobip is a founding member of the Agentic AI Foundation under the Linux Foundation, where MCP is one of the core projects being developed in the open.
What our MCP servers do
Each Infobip API product has its own MCP server. An AI agent connected to them can:
- Send an SMS, WhatsApp message, or email
- Make and manage voice calls
- Look up and update customer profiles
- Verify phone numbers and manage 2FA flows
The agent doesn't need Infobip-specific code; it just discovers what tools are available and calls them. This works with Claude Code, OpenAI Agents SDK, and any other MCP-compatible framework.
We open-sourced how we built them
Rather than hand-coding each MCP server, we built a framework: Infobip OpenAPI MCP. It turns any OpenAPI-documented API into a working MCP server automatically. Neat right? It's built on Spring AI and Spring Boot, and it powers all of our production MCP servers.
Why open source it? We open-sourced it on GitHub(opens in new tab) because every developer with an API will face the same integration challenge. If you already have an OpenAPI spec, you're closer to having an MCP server than you think: point the framework at your spec and your API becomes AI-ready.
We presented this at Shift Zadar 2025 and Devoxx UK 2026 with the pitch: "Your API is already a hidden MCP server."
